About me
Hi there! My name is Karine (birth & postpartum doula)
Outside of my role as a doula, I am a medico-legal assistant, a certified yoga instructor, Thai massage therapist and photographer. I am also a wife & mama to two sweet children.
During my first pregnancy I fell in love with all things related to birth. I found myself obsessively listening to hours of birth and postpartum podcasts. I binged through any birth book I could lay my hands on. I couldn't get enough of the information I was getting. My entire life was changed.
I had found a new love for life and a new love for myself.
⠀⠀
My birth story left me even more in love with pregnancy and the birth process. During labor I felt loved, supported, confident and empowered. It was the hardest thing I have ever done, but it was so fulfilling.
I trusted that I had the Innate ability to birth.
I trusted my baby’s Innate ability to be birthed.
Weeks went by after the birth of my precious son, and I still found myself listening to podcasts about birth every day. I researched articles online, shopped for pregnancy books, and kept watching birth stories on Youtube. I felt called to the birth world. I wanted to shout on the rooftops how magically amazing our womanly bodies are. I wanted women to know that pregnancy and birth isn’t some crazy and scary medical event that just "happens" to us. No. Birth is NATURAL. Whether labor goes medicated or unmedicated, whether laboring at home, in a birthing center or in the hospital, whether your baby is delivered by c-section or vaginally, and whether your baby was conceived naturally or via fertility treatment; BIRTH IS NATURAL.
⠀
So, I prayed and meditated on the intense feelings I had regarding birth. ⠀⠀
And there it was...
"Birth and Postpartum Doula Training".
The rest is history.
I believe that my experience being a yoga instructor and Thai massage therapist are an asset in supporting others physically, emotionally and spiritually. My work as a medico-legal assistant also gives me the advantage of knowing hospital processes, physician College requirements, the importance of informed consent. I also love photography and capturing the beauty of maternity, birth & the newborn stage.
Why did I become a Doula?
These hands are:
The hands of support.
The hands of strength.
The hands of comfort.
The hands of courage.
The hands of security.
The hands of relief.
The hands of compassion.
The hands of dedication.
The hands of love.
These hands are the hands that helped me through the hardest yet most rewarding and empowering thing I’ve ever done in my life. The hands belong to my husband, mother & sister. My birth team.
⠀
These hands are what inspired me to become a birth and postpartum doula. I completed my training to become a doula with the hopes that I too can one day have the PRIVILEGE of being ‘these hands’ for someone.
Knowing that all pregnancies and birth stories are different, here are mine:
First birth (August 28, 2019) - Hospital Birth.
Second birth (August 26, 2022) - Home Birth.
